Commentary

Polyolefin obtained by polymerization of 4-methyl-1-pentene. It has many unique properties due to its bulky side chain structure.

Key points

  • Among polyolefins, it has excellent heat resistance and extremely low water absorption, so it can be steam sterilized.
  • Although it is crystalline, it has high transparency.
  • It has the lowest density (0.83g/cm3) among general resins and has excellent gas permeation.
  • Exhibits stain resistance (low surface tension) and excellent chemical resistance. Therefore, it is not suitable for gluing or painting.
  • Excellent electrical insulation and has a dielectric constant comparable to that of fluororesin.
使われ方

Reason for adoption

Excellent gas permeability, stain resistance (low surface tension), chemical resistance

Source Mitsui Chemicals

Release film

Reason for adoption

Heat resistance to curing temperature and easy peeling (low surface tension) after curing

Source Mitsui Chemicals

Animal cages, scientific laboratory equipment, etc.

Reason for adoption

Visibility inside (transparency), stain resistance (low surface tension), excellent heat resistance, steam sterilizable (steam resistance)
