Commentary
Polyolefin obtained by polymerization of 4-methyl-1-pentene. It has many unique properties due to its bulky side chain structure.
Key points
- Among polyolefins, it has excellent heat resistance and extremely low water absorption, so it can be steam sterilized.
- Although it is crystalline, it has high transparency.
- It has the lowest density (0.83g/cm3) among general resins and has excellent gas permeation.
- Exhibits stain resistance (low surface tension) and excellent chemical resistance. Therefore, it is not suitable for gluing or painting.
- Excellent electrical insulation and has a dielectric constant comparable to that of fluororesin.

Hollow fiber (artificial lung application, etc.)

Reason for adoption
