Sustainable Procurement

Stable Procurement of Raw Materials

We use a variety of naturally derived materials including starch. Therefore, our products are affected by fluctuations in harvest volume due to climate change and fluctuations in market prices due to changes in the supply-demand balance.
To secure the volume necessary for manufacturing, we procure starch, the main raw material, from various crops and locations. This helps to minimize the impact on procurement prices due to the market changes. In addition, we work to cooperate with our suppliers to ensure sustainable procurement activities and maintain a stable supply chain.

Sustainable Procurement Policy

At Nagase Viita, we believe that by consistently delivering safe, and reliable products of high quality to customers, we can earn public trust and contribute to the creation of a sustainable society. Beginning from this belief, we work with our business partners to ensure socially responsible procurement throughout the supply chain.
Needless to say, this is not something that we can achieve on our own. We will continue to promote procurement activities that fulfill our social responsibilities throughout the supply chain in collaboration with our business partners.

1. Delivering safe products of high quality

We refine our in-house techniques to meet shifting market expectations, and contribute to the wellness of people around the world by providing unique and carefully refined materials, technologies, and information in an appropriate manner.

2. Legal compliance

We engage in fair and appropriate procurement activity that respects national and local laws and regulations.
We do not enter into relations of any kind with anti-social forces or related groups and refuse to offer any payments or other benefits to such groups.

3. Human rights

We respect basic human rights. We do not tolerate child labor or forced labor in our procurement activities, and we support the framework of international human rights standards.

4. Environment

We show respect for the environment through action to prevent pollution and other initiatives to ensure that our procurement activity is friendly to our global environment.

5. Mutual understanding and collaboration with business partners

We build systems for collaboration with business partners to reduce procurement-related risk and drive continuous improvement.

Establishment of Supplier Guidelines

Nagase Viita aims to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society through our business activities, based on our Purpose: Respect life, and embrace the well-being of people and the planet. To achieve this, it is crucial to actively engage with our suppliers, share our goals, and collaborate to address the issue while fostering a cooperative relationship built on mutual trust.
As part of this, we have now formulated the Supplier Guidelines as a set of guidelines that we ask our suppliers to follow. These guidelines have been formulated based on the Nagase Viita Human Rights Policy and our Sustainable Procurement Policy. We request all suppliers to understand the purpose of these policies and guidelines, and ensure their dissemination within their organization, and adhere to their provisions.

Use of CSAP-Certified Raw Materials for Sustainable Procurement

Nagase Viita is committed to promoting the procurement of raw materials that consider environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Currently, the corn starch we procure as a raw material is produced using corn defined as sustainable in accordance to the Corn Sustainability Assurance Protocol (CSAP), established by the U.S. Grains Council.

CSAP is an international sustainability system that provides sustainable agricultural practices in U.S. corn production and has been benchmarked at Gold-level equivalency under SAI Platform’s Farm Sustainability Assessment. CSAP-export volumes are tracked across international supply chains through the Sustainable Corn Export (SCE) platform, which seeks to support stakeholders to comply with global sustainability standards, including soil health, biodiversity, greenhouse gas reduction and traceability assurance. Nagase Viita’s raw material suppliers participate in the CSAP/SCE sustainability system.

Nagase Viita is strengthening its efforts not only to ensure the quality and safety of its products but also to address environmental concerns and fulfill its social responsibilities. We will continue to promote responsible procurement as part of our commitment to building a sustainable society.
