Materiality
Nagase Viita has identified its materiality to act as a compass pointing to the areas where we should concentrate our efforts in advancing our purpose, "Respect life, and embrace the well-being of people and the planet," and we run our business sustainably on that basis.
We first identified four material issues in 2019. To respond to a rapidly changing environment and to increasingly diverse social challenges, we revisited them in FY2025: management and a group of junior and mid-career employees selected from every division held repeated dialogue and discussion, deepening the original four and adding two new ones, for a total of six.
Today's social challenges, from climate change and natural capital to human rights, are interconnected, and many of them have no easy solution. As a manufacturer that develops materials by harnessing the power of nature, in the form of microorganisms and enzymes, we will work with our many stakeholders through these six material issues to deliver value unique to Nagase Viita.
Our materiality was determined with the approval of the Board of Directors. Our targets and initiatives for each are set out in our Materiality Action Plans, and we will fulfill our responsibility to society by managing progress appropriately and disclosing information on an ongoing basis.
