October 16th is a World Food Day, designated by the United Nations.
As part of our commitment to the materiality of "Stable Food Security," Nagase Viita has been participating in the corporate program of the Japan Association for the World Food Programme since 2022. Through this, we support their school feeding program.

On October 16th, 2024, we hosted a World Food Day event in the company cafeteria, aiming to raise awareness of global hunger and encourage action among all members of Nagase Viita . The menu featured dishes inspired by African cuisine, and approximately 150 people enjoyed the meal.

With the support of the Japan Association for the World Food Programme, we set up panels in the cafeteria to raise awareness about the fact that around 750 million people worldwide are facing hunger. We also screened videos showcasing the food assistance efforts the organization is undertaking in Africa and Asia. Additionally, we introduced the Red Cup Campaign, where a portion of the proceeds from products bearing the red cup logo are donated to their school feeding program.

The lunch menu featured kebab-style roasted pork, Chakalaka (a South African dish), couscous salad, Ugandan beef soup, and indica rice. The rice was "Sally Queen," grown by Mr. Shibata of Shibata Farm in Okayama City without using fertilizers or pesticides. Known for its fine grains and light texture, the rice paired perfectly with the wild meat dishes. Everyone who tasted it unanimously agreed, saying, "It's really delicious!"

The members of the Communication Design Department developed the recipes at home through multiple trial and adjustments to the balance of spices and seasonings. The menu structure and one-plate serving style were designed with the assistance of the staff at Ichifuji Food Service, who handle the daily cooking at the cafeteria.

Representatives from the Japan Association for the World Food Programme, as well as NAGASE Group employees, traveled from afar to participate in the event. Additionally, six media organizations attended to cover the event, which was subsequently featured on the local evening TV news and in the local newspaper the following morning.

After learning about the World Food Programme's activities, we received many positive comments from employees such as, "If we can help children around the world, I want start by doing my small part," and "I'll be buying products with the red cup logo from now!" By sampling the menu from the countries receiving assistance and talking about it together, the event provided a chance for everone and all involved to reflect on the issue of food security.

Moving forward, we will continue co-creation with our stakeholders and implement various ways to provide value. We appreciate your support!
