The Hayashibara Museum of Art, supported by Nagase Viita, will present “Samurai Tales – Echoes of Time and Beauty in Our Newly Acquired Swords and Masterpieces,” a special exhibition from April 18 to June 14, 2026.

This exhibition features the first public display of 20 swords newly added to the museum’s collection.

On view are masterpieces from the Ichimonji school, a group of swordsmiths based in Okayama Prefecture who were active from the early Kamakura to the Nanbokucho period. The display includes works designated as National Treasures.

The exhibition explores the stories behind these exceptional swords, including pieces believed to have returned to Japan from overseas.

Visitors can also view paintings and calligraphic works, including illustrated handscrolls from The Tale of the Heike and materials related to the Taiheiki, depicting the lives and spirit of the samurai.
