We are pleased to announce that Dr. Tomoyuki Nishimoto, a researcher from our New Material Development Department, currently seconded to Nagase & Co., Ltd., has received the prestigious Society Award from the Japanese Society of Applied Glycoscience.
This award honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of glycoscience and its industrial applications. Dr. Nishimoto was recognized for his groundbreaking work in the discovery of novel enzymes, the innovative application of known glycoscience-related enzymes, and the development of valuable carbohydrate-based materials. His achievements have earned high praise across both academic and industrial sectors.
The award ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 4, 2025, during the annual meeting of the Japan Society for Applied Glycoscience, where Mr. Nishimoto also delivered a commemorative lecture highlighting his research journey and accomplishments.

His research contributed to the development of an adhesive alternative to
Furunori (aged wheat starch paste) for cultural heritage restoration, and to the creation of biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAP) for sustainable material solutions.
