Welcome to the world of Formula E, the "F1 of electric vehicles" (BEVs). In this article we will introduce you to Formula E and feature the exciting partnership between Andretti Formula E team and NAGASE. Together, we are dedicated to driving advancement of electric vehicles. We will also spotlight Jake Dennis, the season 9 Formula E Champion on Andretti's team in 2023.
Formula E is a racing series established by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) in 2012, exclusively for electric cars. Often referred to as the "F1 of electric cars," Formula E aims to promote the adoption of BEVs in urban areas to combat air pollution. Races are typically held on street circuits in major cities and resort destinations around the world, bringing the excitement of electric racing to urban landscapes.
A key feature of Formula E is the limitation on battery capacity, requiring teams to complete races with a finite amount of energy. This makes effective energy management a critical strategic consideration for drivers and teams.
Another unique aspect is the "Attack Mode", which temporarily increases the power limit of the cars from the standard 300kW to 350kW. This mode can be activated when passing through the "Activation Zone" located on the outside of specific corners of the track, which adds an extra layer of strategy to the races.
In Attack Mode, drivers temporarily fall behind their rivals by taking the outer line through a corner, but they gain the opportunity to quickly catch up with a burst of acceleration. However, this mode significantly consumes battery power. Therefore, it’s crucial for drivers to carefully consider their position relative to their competitors and manage their battery usage to decide the optimal timing for activation.
Additionally, there is a rule that requires drivers to use Attack Mode a specified number of times in each race.
Formula E made its debut in 2014 in Beijing, China, and has since expanded to include locations all around the world, recently concluding Season 9. Season 10 began in January 2024 in Mexico City, with races in Saudi Arabia and Brazil, and will conclude with the inaugural Tokyo E-Prix in March 2024.
The Tokyo E-Prix features an exclusive Formula E circuit built on the public roads of Tokyo's Ariake district. Known for its technical layout, the first half of the track includes a series of challenging corners.
